Why and how do people do shows?

There are many different forms of show, including a range of performances; live gigs, street performances, theatre, stand-up comedy and art exhibitions.

Street performances

Street performances offer a wide range of things that can be done, as it is not confined to once select place and the performer can perform freely, to anyone, and street performing often appeals to performers who’s acts are ‘abnormal’ and would not be seen other than on the street, e.g. human statues. As many people are likely to walk around the street that a street performer is on, which means they will also attract a lot of attention. Performing on the street also offers a range of performances such as; dancing, mine/statue, circus type acts and music. Some street performing, depending on the area, needs a permit in order to carry out the act. People that do street performances are usually trying to raise a bit of money, that people may leave them, but others may be trying to make it into a larger, professional venue by being noticed on the street, performers may be looking for fame for their talent. Street performers usually perform in large cities as they contain more people that may be passing by on the streets.

Theatres

Theatre venues are focused on live performances, although are not as free as other forms of performing such as street performing, as they are usually confined to one stage. Although the reason that actors and dancers and also performers like stand-up comedians use theatres is that they are a good way to have a controlled performance, performers are told what to do, and the producers can can the scenery and back-drop according to the show. Also depending on the size of the venue, theatres can hold quite large audiences, which means more people will get a chance to see the performer, and unlike street performers, if someone goes to watch a show in a theatre venue then they are there to only see that performance. Theatres’ as a venue are good as all types of performances can be shown there.

Art Exhibitions

Art exhibitions are a good way of showing art, as unlike a lot of other forms of performance or shows there isn’t really any other way of showing art other than an art exhibition. Art exhibition can vary from large to small depending on the popularity or size of the art. Art exhibitions give the audience an opportunity to see the work on a very personal level as unlike other forms of show, the audience can view the art up-close and sometimes alone.
