‘Chad Vader’ is a mini series based around the character Chad Vader, the younger brother of Darf Vader from star wars, it contains a lot of humour and references to star wars. In this series Chad works in a supermarket. This series contracts a wide range of features that target different audiences; fans of star wars will like the use of references to Darf Vader and Star Wars and will be interested in the concept of Darf Vader having a brother, it also will attract audience that are not interested in Star Wars, I have not seen Star Wars and only have the basic knowledge to know that Chad looks the same as Darf, the reason that I really enjoyed watching an episode of this series was the comedy, there are also a lot of comical moments that are not related to Star Wars which is good for audiences like me that would not understand the show if it was completely based upon Star Wars references. The show features some special effects that most other mini series don’t, it features scenes where Chad levitates an apple into his hands and also makes flowers fly across the room.
‘The Guild’ is a mini series based around characters that obsessively play and online war game, this series is also a comedy series. This show features mainly mid shots of either the characters sitting at their computers playing the game and talking to the other characters through microphones or mid shots of the main character talking to the camera, seen as though she is filming herself, using a webcam. This show once again is targeting not only audiences that are interested in online games but has comedy that will attract other audiences.
‘We Need Girlfriends’ is a mini series that is about three guys that have just moved into a new house together after recently all being broken up with by their long time girlfriends. The show is the tree guys trying to find themselves new girlfriends and arguments that they have about girls. This is a basic idea that has been used many times before about group of guys trying get girlfriends (similarly used in storylines like American Pie where a group of male friends try to find girlfriends and lose their virginities) although this storyline is used very often, it will attract a large number of audiences as it does not have specific references to movies or games like the other which may not attract people that are not familiar with the references.
All of these mini series are similar, they are humorous and feature only a few characters with an on-going story-line to keep the audience interested and make them watch more episodes, when making our mini series we will need to do something similar, have a simply idea with only a few main characters but a flexible story-line that can include more characters being featured in future episodes. It also seems that most popular online series and are comedy videos as people will enjoy watching it and comedy attracts a wider range of audiences.
Why these shows are perfect for online broadcasting......
Shows such as these are broadcasted online as they would not gain as much notice or access to other forms of show such as TV or live performances. These types of show, until they gain a lot of notice and popularity would not gain the access to be properly broadcasted on television, and also most webseries are not longer than a few minutes which is not long enough to be broadcasted in other ways. Showing online is also a good way of gaining popularity as it can be broadcasted to anyone, anywhere which is perfect for unheard of or new people/shows. Also because these show are usually ongoing, the internet is the best way of keeping people watching, as websites and online video broadcasting sites such as Youtube allows audiences to 'subscribe' to the show and get updates on new or coming episodes.
For online series it is also good that audiences can post feedback and comments which allow the makers of the show to keep in line with what the audience wants from the show.
The other reason why show like this are better suited for online broadcasting is that unlike TV or live venue, there are no restriction to watch the show can be about or contain, other than the restrictions of having something on a site like youtube which has to be restricted from explict sexual content or must have an age restriction on swearing or other adult content.
